I would like to nominate Gwen Burzycki for an award (if she hasn't already received one). She has been a member and officer of the Miami Dade Chapter for many years, and a very strong voice for native plants in south Florida.
She is a biologist for the Miami-Dade Department of Environmental Resources Management(DERM). In that capacity she has done some outstanding work on wetland classification and wetland management. She has also been involved in the Everglades Restoration Project since it began. As you know, she was very instrumental in the native plant restoration project at the Everglades National Park
headquarters, which was recognized at last year's conference.
Since I am retired and now living in Desoto, I don't have easy access to the DERM records, so I'd need to get some help from Patty Phares, and Gwen's current boss at DERM to supply greater details.
