Note that State-Wide FNPS hours are 3% of the total hours reported compared to 5% of the total 2023 hours.  Board meetings have been reported, but individual board members and committee meeting hours are not reported.  FNPS Funded Project hours are also not being reported.  There is still time to catch up as 2024 hour reporting will not be closed out until mid-January.

Board of Directors / Conservation Committee Report

The Conservation Committee met on Tuesday, Dec 17th at 6:30

The committee discussed various issues including problems with joining ARC meetings, the involvement of individuals in the LMR process, and the potential benefits of participating in DEP regional reviews (details on this are unclear, the southwest regions next to be evaluated). Budgets for the Conservation and Dan Austin awards were discussed. The Dan Austin Award has funds for one award of about $2400. There is no specific budget item for the Conservation Award, but there is a commitment to funding it this year. There is a need for a recurring funding mechanism with the thought of increasing it and making it more meaningful. Lastly, we discussed the need to keep an eye on upcoming bills and potential opportunities.

Action Items
• Neal to reach out internally at Wildlands about potential RCPP funding for Dicerandra project.
• FNPS Staff (Melissa) to include reminder about chapter donations for conservation grants in January chapter packet.
• Amy to brainstorm ideas for sustainable funding mechanisms for conservation grants before next meeting.
• John to follow up with Gene about details on DEP regional reviews for state parks.
• All members to keep an eye on upcoming legislative bills related to FNPS interests.
