A draft agenda has been started for the pleasure of the board. The agenda will finalize upon receiving everyone's input and approval of the consent agenda; it will be posted as an attachment thereafter:

The new member data distribution center is functional for chapters, and I will be doing an introduction to it on Sept. 26 (Monday).

Chapters will have access to what they have now plus new options that will let you tailor what you see to what you need.

Logins will be mailed to the following chapter people -- if we have them.  This will happen during the day on the 26 or 27th (I want to talk to them before they log in).  There will also be some simple written documentation sent with the login.

A survey of the chapters showed that the following people need access:
1.  chapter presidents
2.  chapter membership managers
3.  chapter representatives
4.  newsletter editors or communications chairs

An introduction for FNPS board members will be planned for early October.  To be announced.

Report of hours reported through 9/20 attached.

Overall reported hours are meeting goals due to the effort of Chapters.  Reporting and attention at the State-Wide level is, however, disappointing.

FNPS State-Wide hours look okay in summary, but detail shows few FNPS Board committee or individual hours are being reported.  FNPS Board meeting hours are no longer being reported.  Over half of FNPS State-Wide hours are Annual Conference and Lunch & Learn hours - the direct result of just a few individuals and not at all indicative of FNPS governance attention and effort.

Almost three quarters of the FNPS Funded Project hours are for a project that it appears is not funded.  Project coordinators have persisted anyway, getting donated supplies and services, to make an impact.  However, loss of rescue site access and lack of ongoing support will likely preclude continuation of this effort at the same level.

Review of reporting can provide a very valuable management tool

Hi all,

Lynda got a quote from Whova for the virtual services for the 2023 Annual Conference.  See attached.

This is a 2023 expense which needs to be secured (and paid I think?) this year.

I seek approval for this expense in advance of the 2023 Annual Budget so that Lynda can obligate this.  This is likely part of the proposed conference budget.

If paid in 2022, this will be a current year expense, but "accrue" to 2023.

The total amount is:  $4,199

Thank you

Hi all,

Lynda and I will be seeking a motion to approve a "lease agreement" between FNPS and Putnam Land Conservancy (PLC).  The draft agreement is attached for your review.  Also attached are maps and background information.

By way of brief explanation:

FNPS owns 12 acres in Marion County, as a small preserve for clasping warea and sand skink.  Both of these are Federally listed imperiled species.  Part of the purchase funding came from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service mitigation fund for sand skink habitat protection.  As such we have an obligation to manage the property for skink (and warea) habitat.  We have an explicit obligation for a management plan, per the terms of our grant agreement.  Some work has been done, but much remains.

In recent weeks, we've met with the USFWS representatives, and they've encourage us to undertake more agreesive hardwood control practices, as part of an overall strategy to introduce prescribed fire on the site.  USFWS indicates that we can sign up for cost share assistance through the Partners for Wildlife program, but that would not start until late 2024.

In the meantime, we'd like to get cost share assistance from the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), through a Farm Bill program.  Putnam Land Conservancy is already enroll in this program (EQIP) and they have offered to help us managed the Warea tract.  We discovered that PLC could enroll the Warea tract in the EQIP program, and be the designated recipient as a "tenant" of the property.  This arrangement would require a lease agreement to satisfy NRCS.  Thus, we propose this agreement as a "no-fee" arrangement, assigning management responsibility to PLC.

A quick turnaround is needed, as there is a Sept 30 deadline for applying for this cost share program.

SUGGESTED MOTION:  "I move to authorized the FNPS President to execute the lease agreement between FNPS and Putnam Land Conservancy as presented (or modified).  This five year lease agreement is for the purpose of fund raising and implementation of restoration management on the FNPS Warea Tract in Marion County."

Other attachments are for background:

1.  The existing MOU between FNPS and PLC
2.  A location map
3.  General Warea project info (old, pre-purchase of land)
4.  A more recent flyer produced by Duke Energy
5.  Duke energy sign

Thanks,

Susan

The Boggy Creek Project ( hence forth known within the body of this report as, the company) has progressed exceedingly well. The collaboration between the Company and the Florida Native Plant Society should continue to evolve, as Boggy Creek’s involvement is now also expanding beyond their known branding as an Airboat attraction, and embarking on incorporating education, conservation and topics involving the natural world.

As the company continues to develop content, they will continue to seek out the Florida Native Plant Society’s feedback and guidance…further solidifying collaboration.

At last conversation, the suggested donation amount of at minimum $2000.00 would be disbursed upon the culmination of the Agreed upon timeline on the MOU.

Photographs and Videos of thus far completed project, will be available later this evening…9/22/2022

I’m grateful to the Board, in consideration of this most non-traditional fund raising effort.
A thank you to Tayler Figueroa and Valerie Anderson(Pine Lily)for their efforts on Saturday 9/10 and Jackie Rolly (Tar Flower) for her assistance on Sunday 9/11 and then again on Wednesday 9/14. The company provided labor assistance in planting. A true collaborative effort, in that it could not have been completed, without their abundant support in labor.

From the inception of the collaboration, both State Level and Local Chapter involvement was encouraged and welcomed.

Key learnings and a post Morten report will be available upon completion of said project.
