[Volunteer Hours Report - June 20, 2024 BOD Meeting]

Volunteer Hours Report  (May and June Reports attached)
Chapters:
•   Reported hours on track to equal or exceed 2023 hours
•   Working to increase reporting by recruiting/training volunteer hour coordinators for non-reporting Chapters
FNPS State-Wide: (reporting instructions attached)
•   3% of 2024 total hours to date vs. 5% of 2023 total hours
•   Reporting is lagging.  Was responsibility to report hours explained in BOD orientation?
•   Committee work not reported for Native Landscaping and Outreach Events (Conference)
•   Board member hours reported for IRS 990 (report attached).  Only 7 Board members (Basham, Redmond, Simon, Burgos, Denton, Poag, Earley) reported any 2023 hours.  IRS report (public record) makes it appear FNPS has a very low-functioning Board.
FNPS Funded Projects:
•   Work not being reported – or has it decreased?
•   If hours aren’t reported how are we applying for grant funding reimbursement?

There are several volunteers for Council Secretary who will not be needed for the Council.  Suggesting that these volunteers could be utilized by Board Committees.  Have started emailing committee chairs to match candidates.  Please email [email protected] if you could use secretarial help for your committee.

[June 20, 2024 Project Report Palmetto Abstracts]

My project has been to write abstracts for each of the Palmetto articles currently available. Of the 25 topic categories, nine have been completed. Of the remaining 16 categories there are approximately 325 articles to read and write their abstracts. I’ve currently completed abstracting just over 150 articles. The “interesting” aspect of the project is that as long as FNPS continues to publish the Palmetto, there will never be an end to this project.

[Bioblitz project update]

Project update:

Working with JaxZoo Edu and UNF wetland club. We've conducted 4 bioblitz in city parks and preserves.

Project goals:

Conduct a Bioblitz every month to meaningfully engage Floridians in protecting and preserving the state’s native plants and ecosystems.

To engage with science teachers and students.

To collect new, original observations and data on the state’s flora to better inform policy decisions about management and conservation of the state’s natural resources.

Finance Committee did not meet this past month.

[Conservation Committee]

There was no Conservation Committee meeting this month. There was an important meeting of Land Management Review team members to discuss the current process and consider improvements to the process.

I sent Mark a letter asking that he accept my resignation as Education Committee's Chairperson, and he has accepted it. The Committee has agreed to temporarily disband the and suspend activity until the Board of Directors directs otherwise. I plan to continue work on the Board of Directors and the Communications Committee and to continue my work on abstracting articles in the Palmetto.
