Dear BOD,  Attached is the agenda and president's report for next weekend's retreat.  Minutes are posted on the forum.  We will have a consent agenda again, so review reports posted here beforehand in case you feel something needs to be removed from the consent agenda.  We will also go over the program aspects of the Strategic plan, review the bylaw changes and plan for the next step, and also have time for the Council of Chapters to meet.  Lunch and drinks will be provided on Saturday, but bring snacks if you have any special dietary needs.  We will likely have dinner out nearby on Saturday.  Check for any revisions on Thursday.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.  I look forward to seeing you all.  -- Steve

2/6/14 --The revised agenda and presidential report are attached, please read them carefully.  In addition, please remember that we are using a consent agenda.  Reports and documents listed on the consent agenda must be read.  Voting on approving the consent agenda means that all actions listed in these documents are being approved by the Board of Directors (you).  They are not to be discussed at the mtg, if you wish to pull something off the consent agenda, you must make a motion to do so.  More information about  using consent agendas can be found here:  http://www.4-h-canada.ca/core/images/webinars/Webinar%209%20-%20Consent%20Agenda%20-%20BoardSource.pdf

Some Southern Ecology for Southern Lay folk:
If the Live Oak is the "southern belle" of our trees, then the Longleaf Pine is certainly the mule.

Thoughts on structure:

Branding Subcommittee -- a group that would handle getting us to a consistent "look".   It needs to involve the major users

Website Subcommittee -- Website committee should be a subcommittee.   We need more involvement.  There are two parts to this -- handling humans and programming -- we need to be recruiting people with appropriate skill sets -- human (Paul is handling, doing a great job, wants help),  advanced programmer (php and javascript), various content providers and reviewers.

Social Media -- working great right now!

Internal Communications Subcommittee -- work to figure out what we need to do to improve -- as a Society, this seems to be one of our biggest challenges -- needs to involve our contractors and all the committee chairs and needs to work with the Chapter Council-- should not be a committee just to create structures that we don't implement

Publications -- It died with Bob E.  We need to determine if we can retrieve any of his work (Cammie?) -- It also was not working -- this idea is still useful -- it may be coordination with those responsible for implementing the key strategic plan initiatives -- I think we have someone who might enjoy handling this -- and he is future leadership material.  At least when last visited by FNPS leadership, the concept was providing a vetted library of pre-done materials that could be provided to local media for publication.

Publicity (External Communications Subcommittee?)-- not clear --  and what it is it might need to come out of strategic plan initiatives -- we need someone interested in this to lead ithe subcommittee -- and there is overlap with Publications as last confibured

Other ideas ??
